100 years since the birth of Josef Svoboda

Preparation of the exhibition on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Josef Svoboda

The Czech cultural environment gave the world three extraordinary personalities after the Second World War: Miloš Forman, Milan Kundera and Josef Svoboda. No other Czech artist has achieved such a fundamental position on the world cultural scene in his field. Josef Svoboda would be May 10, 2020 lived to be 100 years old.

The solution of the exhibition for his hundredth birthday is an extraordinary task. An exhibition is expected that will not only present the breadth and diversity of Jubilant's work (more than 600 scenographies for the world's most important theaters, participation in EXPO, Laterna magika, theatrical technology innovations, etc.), but above all mediates the monumental and magical effect of the stage as He understood and created freedom.

After failing to obtain the support of the Ministry of Culture for 2019 for the preparation of the exhibition, we were forced to withdraw from the contract with the DOX Center for Modern Art, where we were to begin on February 6, 2020.

We discussed with the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region in Kutná Hora the possibility of an exhibition in the second half of the year and at the same time bringing the venue of the exhibition closer to Svoboda's birthplace - Čáslav. The GASK management came to us with a full understanding of our problems and released the deadline from the end of June. However, extraordinary measures in connection with the Kovid 19 pandemic were severely affected by further preparations for the exhibition. GASK approached the problems again very operatively and with full understanding.

The exhibition can be held in the period from October 10, 2020 to January 31, 2021.

We believe that this deadline will no longer be violated.

More information about the exhibition can be found here.
